The visiting speaker for our March 5th meeting was Tricia Baker of Spring Hill Physical Therapy. Her professional biography and a photo are posted on the Spring Hill web site (http://www.springhillpt.com) and reproduced here:
"Tricia Baker, P.T. received her degree in Physiotherapy in 1978
from St. Mary’s Hospital in London, England. She has developed and worked in rehabilitation programs in the U.K. and Africa, as well as offered home care and private practice in the U.S. since 1990. Her training includes CranioSacral Therapy, Homeopathy, Massage Therapy, Reiki, and BodyTalk. Currently, her passion lies in BodyTalk, which is a system based on muscle testing to stimulate the body’s own healing."Ms Baker spoke to us about two recently developed and increasingly adopted modalities of physical therapy: Body Talk Access and Brain Magic.
There were two handouts:
1) "Body Talk Access: Techniques & Reference Guide." (bodytalksystem.com)
2) "Brain Magic: An Easy Click," the fourth lesson from Brain Magic by Niel Slade. (http://www.neilslade.com/Papers/viewzone/BrainMagicView.html)

Following are summaries of the key features of the two modalities.

BodyTalk Access— developed by John Veitheim (chiropractor, traditional acupuncturist, philosopher, and teacher) — is an energy bodywork technique that aims to communicate directly with the body-mind entity to affect good health. It employs five therapeutic techniques called (1) Cortices, (2) Switching, (3) Hydration, (4) Body Chemistry, and (5) Reciprocals.

Brain Magic, an energy bodywork method developed by musician and teacher Niel Slade, focuses on the brain's "lymbic system," in which the amygdala serves as "a gateway/switch that turns on the most advanced part of [the] brain, the frontal lobes."
When the amygdala is "clicked backward" toward the primitive core of the brain, the results are "primitive reptile brain thoughts and behaviors: self-defense and counter attack; fight or flight; basic survival" and negative emotions.
When the amygdala is "clicked forward," it purportedly "begins Cooperative intelligence, . . . jump starts [the] Imagination, . . . begins new Creative thinking, . . . connects [one] to higher Intuition, . . . [and] "adds on common sense and Logic." Hence, the acronym "CICIL."

Nota Bene. The following paragraph should be taken for what it is: a verbal experiment by your editor to write — with Tricia's sporting permission — a summation of her presentation in a style that imitates the pronunciations and spellings of British English.
To wit:
Whilst Tricia was amongst us, she spoilt many a false notion about easing chronic pain, most notably thinking straight away that the best of all possible reliefs are to be found in the chemist's bottle. She didn't altogether rubbish the idea of taking medications, but she did encourage honouring the programmes of natural healing residing inside our very own bodies, programmes waiting to be envisioned, learnt, and used to ease one's pain.
She also invited us to prefer liquid vitimins — i.e., vitamins — over tablets.
